Franklin & Bash - 2.04 (For Those About To Rock)

While I have long since come to terms with the fact that there will never be an episode of Franklin & Bash that I'm not excited about, I was looking forward to this one based on the title alone - anything that takes it's cue from an AC/DC song is okay by me!

Things I loved:

~ Jared's trick shot on the pool table - how many takes did he need to get that right?
~ Peter's terrible off-key singing and Jared's beautiful reassurance to him that he does, in fact, shred (he doesn't, btw).
~ Jared's suits - OMFG! This may well be a standing agenda items, because damn...
~ Jared in judge's robes! Hello little boy who's been let loose in the dressing-up box!
~ EVERYTHING ABOUT JARED'S FACE!! (I'm sorry, I'll stop shouting at you all now.)
~ Daddy issues! Oh god, such beautiful daddy issues.
~ Peter going all fanboy over Mötley Crüe's 1986 bar tab (right there with you, dude!)
~ The beautiful 'we're not really talking about this right now but we will later' conversation that Peter and Jared have about Jared's daddy issues.
~ Stanton in front of a jury again - inspired!
~ Carmen as a groupie reporter (complete with totally gratuitous ass shot!)
~ The canonical beach house - I want fic and I want it like yesterday!
~ Peter playing his guitar while having bare feet. And I have no idea why...
~ The 'phone tossing' scene between Peter and Jared!
~ The win against Leonard - go boys!
~ Jared being Peter's biggest fan, no matter how bad he might be.

Things I was less happy about:

~ Um, where's Officer Wendy? Please to be bringing her back. Like now!
~ Why did we not get to see how too-long Jared's robes were? Missed comedic opportunity, people...
~ If Jared was really two years old when David Bowie wrote Ziggy Stardust, that would make him forty years old now - WRITERS! GET IT TOGETHER!!
~ Making Jared a non-rock fan who didn't understand the Moby Dick / Bonzo reference. A little bit of Breckin must have died inside...
~ Peter and Jared not agreeing on anything musically - Noooo!! Not in my head!canon!
~ Why cut the end before Peter could play? Another sad, missed opportunity...

Here, have ALL THE QUOTES:

JARED: No blowing before 8am - don't necessarily agree with that...

JARED: If my partner was here right now, he would be visibly aroused. Uh, law partner, not life partner. Although we do live together. It gets, it gets fun...

JARED: 'Judge murders rock and roll'? It was justifiable homicide - I had to do it! Being a judge is hard. All that... judging.

JARED: You really think we can just sign him?
PETER: Piece of cake.
JARED: All right, what's the play?
PETER: All right. You stay out here, don't show your face.
JARED: Wait, no way - I'm not gonna hide out here...
PETER: Hey! Dude, dude - he hates you. I hate you. Don't come in until I give you the sign.
JARED: [MOST ADORABLE POUTY LOOK EVER!!]

STANTON: There's no other way to put this, sir, but you are a scumbag.
JUDGE: There are plenty of other ways, Mr Infeld. Please try a little harder.
STANTON: Fair enough, your honour...

JARED: Hey! Did you get in?
CARMEN: [smiles]
PETER: Backstage at The Fort?! Did you see anybody? Did you see any musicians?
JARED: Fanboy! Focus!

PETER: Y'know, we keep making this about dates and - and contracts and - and legal stuff, we're gonna loose. I mean, that's Cole's game... [sweeps all the papers off the desk in a dramatic gesture]
JARED: Woah!
PETER: Yeah, we make this about rock and roll! Y'know, we gotta think like Kiss - I'll be Gene Simmons, you can be...
JARED: The twenty-first century.
PETER: The twentieth was better.
JARED: Paper shove is a strong move.
PETER: Yeah. Newman did it in 'The Verdict'

JARED: You sure we shouldn't just wait for Dennis? He said that his dad...
PETER: You worry too much.
JARED: He said his dad...
PETER: I wanna meet him. Come on, it's gonna be good...
[door opens, Burt's standing there with a pump-action shot gun]
JARED: [holds up his hands] I swallowed my gum...
PETER: It's okay, we're lawyers. Franklin and Bash.
[Burt cocks the shot gun]

I've also noticed that I'm settling into a nice little routine on Wednesdays, which goes something along the lines of:

1) Get email from [livejournal.com profile] gingerpig to say that the episode has been located and secured for download.
2) Get non-spoilery squee text from [livejournal.com profile] gingerpig about said episode.
3) Wait an eternity until work is over and I can get home to watch the episode too.
4) Race in through the door, turn on the laptop and set phasers to stun the download going.
5) Twitch for the next half an hour.
6) Watch the episode with my fist in my mouth, sometimes removing it long enough to text [livejournal.com profile] gingerpig with insightful comments that are mostly in capitals.
7) Call [livejournal.com profile] gingerpig and have a three minute conversation that mostly consists of dolphin noises and hand waving.
8) Watch the episode again to note down thoughts and words and feelings, some of which may even be coherent.

Well, that's my Wednesdays sorted - how 'bout you?!

Yes, there really needs to be fic of Peter and Jared at the beach house. I don't really care what they do there, just the idea of them being there and Jared being a bit unhappy is probably enough. Maybe with Jared staring longingly out of windows with rain running down the glass and Peter coming up behind him, slipping his arms around Jared's waist and... sorry, where was I?

I will go with your generous offer of cutting the writers some slack over the whole Bowie thing, but they better clear things up in the flashback episode! And yes, Janie could well be disappointing. Especially as she's nowhere near as awesome as Officer Wendy...

Its definitely getting its groove back, although the parties at the man-cave seem to have matured!?

You see what I mean about the daddy angst? Subtly changed it up to make it different from the first season - also loved the awkward moment between Peter and Franklin Snr.

Jared should be a judge right now!!! Surprised Damien didn't get mad...although that could lead to fics....

Do you get the feeling that MPG was like a kid in a candy store for this ep and just wouldn't stop grinning and running around like a crazy person?

I have more thoughts but they are best communicated through interpretive dance :P

Parties at the Man Cave seem awesome these days. Must be their swanky new pad that does it!

The daddy issues were slightly different this time around, I got the sense that Leonard is trying to re-build the bridges but Jared's not gonna make it easy for him, even though he clearly still wants Daddy's approval. But he was awesome as a Judge!

I'm sure MPG must've loved being a musician in the episode. Even if 'musician' was stretching things a bit! And I will look forward to your interpretive dance on the subject next week... ;o)
