First of all, I'd like to say a *HUGE* thank you to whoever it was who bought me 12 months of paid LJ time! I couldn't believe it when I opened the email this afternoon; I was so surprised and happy. So 'thank you' and hundreds of smoochies to my very generous but anonymous friend - whoever you are, you totally rock! If you want to remain anonymous then I totally understand, but I'd *love* to know who you are... [g] I know who it is now, and I was right, she *does* totally rock... [secret smoochies]
Had a totally cathartic day at work today... I'll be the first to admit that I'm just not cut out for a public service profession, so why I keep ending up in them is a flipping mystery to me! Working full-time in the Library Service for the last 5 months has been 'challenging' to say the least - there's only so long each day that you can smile politely as you check out someone's books before you just want to yell 'Oh piss off, you boring fucker, and take your shitty historical romances with you!'

But working in a 'grown-up' library (as opposed to the Children's Library, where I've been for the last 4 years part-time and will be remaining) hasn't been all bad. I've rediscovered the joys of reading adult fiction, which I'd all but given up and replaced with fanfic. In fact, a quick check on the history of my borrower records told me that I'd read about 25 books in the last four months. Haven't read any fic though...

The last one was actually unearthed during today's shelf purge. A co-worker showed it to me because it has a stamp on the catalogue page that none of us had ever seen before: 'Readers are advised that some passages in this book may cause offence'. Well, I like a challenge... [g] I also need to remember that RL is *not* LJ, and not everyone 'gets' where I'm coming from:
Co-worker: [referring to above stamp] Have you ever seen this message before?
ME: [reads] No, but now I really want to take it out!
CW: [laughs and closes the book to look at the front cover] Hey, it's two men.
ME: Oh, I'm totally taking that out now!
CW: Really?
ME: [loudly] Boy porn? Are you kidding? [snatches book]
Everyone else in the library: [backs away slowly]
[clings to LJ] It's safe here, right? [g] Okay, time for bed now [yawns] nighty night all... [wanders off clutching the bedtime boy porn]
